Raymond Chésa Leisure Park

(Map)

Creation of Lake Cavayère

A place for sunbathing - 3 beaches
with supervised swimming

In 1985, a fire destroyed many hectares of coniferous trees in the area around Carcassonne. Raymond Chésa, the Mayor of Carcassonne, decided to transform the devastated site into a magnificent reservoir holding some 1.5 million cubic metres of water covering an area of 18 hectares; Lake Cavayère was born.

The Raymond Chésa Leisure Park is situated in natural surroundings close to the imposing walls of the Cité Médiévale, and extends over 40 hectares. It is home to a host of Mediterranean vegetation and spreads over three small valleys (fed by the Bazalac, Mitgé, and Montirat creeks), which offer a unique backdrop.

A place for outdoor activities - Forestry Acrobatic Park, mountain bike, Rowing, orienteering, hiking, miniature golf.

A walk around the Cavayère lake (approx. one hour) will reveal a variety of different landscapes and ecological environments, from fresh pastures to arid land, from woods to fallow ground, from shade to brilliant sunlight. In the centre, the bird island is an ideal nesting ground for ducks and other waterborne species.

Perfect for walks, the park is also a place for leisure activities in which you will find converted picnic areas, pedalos, a mini golf course, several beach volleyball courts and a forest adventure park.

Motorboats are prohibited, but otherwise sailing and boating are permitted. Bathing is also possible in supervised areas marked out by buoys.
